Animal Shelter Volunteer Opportunities
Direct Animal Care: dog walking, enrichment and socialization of cats or dogs, grooming animals, transport assistance
Vet Assistance: assistance during spay/neuters, vaccinations, exams and other veterinary care
Transportation: driving animals that needs to go to a vet or other shelter and transport driving
Foster care: temporary homes for animals in the care of CAHS
Cleaning: cleaning dog kennels and cat cages, scooping poop outside, cleaning building itself
Laundry and Dishes: washing and folding animal bedding and towels, washing food bowls
Maintaining Dog Park: ensuring that the dog park stays safe and clean
Grant Writer: researches and applies for grants under the supervision of the ED
Special Events Committee: helps to plan, procure donations for and run special events
Educational Outreach Committee: presents educational programs to schools, clubs and camps, tables at community events and writes articles for the newspaper, website and blog
Marketing Committee: writes press releases for the newspaper, social media posts, graphic design, etc
Adoption Assistance: photographs and writes descriptions of animals up for adoption, takes animals into the community for exposure and increased adoption chances
Handyman/woman: assistance with maintenance and repair of CAHS facility/property
Dump Runner: makes weekly trips to the dump for shelter
Office Work: data entry, filing, writing thank you notes, mailings, etc
Greeter: welcomes visitors to the shelter and orients them to the facility/adoption process
Item Procurement: obtains donations of items needed for the shelter/animals
Landscaping/Gardening: designing, installing and maintaining the shelter grounds
Volunteers must be 18 unless approved otherwise. If you are 11 or younger, you may become a volunteer in our Fuzzy Tails Reading Club. Please have your parent email the Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected]

You will be contacted (via email or phone) after your application has been received and reviewed. Next, our Volunteer Coordinator will interview you and contact your references. After that, you will do a new volunteer orientation before shadowing an existing volunteer or staff member in the role(s) you are interested in.
