As mother’s day approaches, we have a story to share with you about a very special mom. It is as story about her love, her dedication, and the beautiful bond that is shared between a mother and her babies.

Thanks to this incredible mom, these 5 happy & healthy babies have only known love in their short lives. Their mom has provided them with the very best of care, fed them, comforted them and done everything in her power to protect them and keep them safe, as all great moms do.

This is also a story about a remarkable will to survive. About a mother who sheltered her babies from harm while battling for life herself.

This story is about Gloria.

Gloria was one of the hundreds of stray dogs who struggle to live each day in the Nashville TN area. Gloria was a stray who people had seen around the neighborhood for some time. They noticed she started to look pregnant, then they noticed something was very wrong. Gloria had suffered a serious injury that left her with suspected bilateral pelvic fractures and a bulging disk at her sacrum, all while pregnant.

Despite this injury, despite not receiving any vet care, Gloria gave birth to 5 babies and managed to keep them not just alive - but thriving for a week before being trapped by one of our rescue partners in TN, Robyn of Robyn’s Nest Animal Rescue. (https://www.facebook.com/robynsnestsanctuary)

When we received the email about Gloria, her pictures were altogether shocking and heartbreaking. What she endured to give birth to and care for her babies, while in what had to have been excruciating pain, is unimaginable. Unfortunately, without having had any vet care, her injures have left her without full use of her legs and tail.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the volunteer group Pilots N Paws (https://www.facebook.com/pilotsnpawsfanpage), Gloria and her beautiful puppies are arriving to NH tonight. Pilots N’ Paws is an all-volunteer group of pilots who donate their time and airplanes to help dogs around the country to safety – all for free. They are truly amazing and we cannot adequately express our thanks to the pilots who are participating in the relay to get Gloria here safely.

Gloria will be receiving a consultation by the wonderful Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Gauger, at Norway Veterinary Hospital next week to determine how we can best help this very special mom begin to heal. As always, we are completely dependent on donations to help animals in need and if you would like to contribute to Gloria’s care, please do so by following this link: http://www.conwayshelter.org/donate/
