ANIMAL
DISASTER RELIEF UPDATE:
A SEASON OF HEALING AND REBUILDING
In the wake of the events of September 11th,
our nation struggles
to find comfort this Holiday Season.
As the Holiday Season is upon us and we begin
to return to our normal routines of well wishing
and gift giving, our nation is still undergoing
a long healing process. Since you last heard from
us, The ASPCA has continued to make a significant
difference in so many lives for so many deserving
creatures. We would like to share with you the
programs in the ASPCA's
Pet Rescue Mission that your compassionate
gift has made possible.
The
A has been coordinating Pet
Therapy Services at the Family Relief Center
in New York City. Here wonderful therapy cats
and dogs have been providing comfort to grieving
families, emotionally drained relief workers,
and anyone else who just needs to feel a little
love and joy. The pets themselves act as the therapy,
providing something that the other therapists
are just not able to do. "The therapist may not
have the language needed to connect," says Dr.
LaFarge, ASPCA psychologist, "the animals reach
people in ways people can't." Whether through
a purring expression or a lick on the nose, these
pets are easing the hearts and minds of both children
and adults.
Here
are more ways we've put your gift to work:
Shortly
after the terrible events of September 11th, The
ASPCA springs into action, by helping to rescue
and care for the unexpected casualties the animals
left in the evacuated homes near the World Trade
Center. Click

Heroic
accounts of our Humane Law Enforcement Officers
and other Team Members' rescue efforts were featured
on "Animal Precinct AT GROUND ZERO"; the one-hour
television special, which premiered on Animal
Planet in October. Click

In
addition to continuing the coordination of Pet
Therapy Services at the Family Center, the ASPCA
is engaged in the extension of all services initiated
by the events of September 11th - a unifying experience
for the entire ASPCA Family. Click

We
appreciate your support,
