The Medical Miracle Workers Program
Earlier last year we introduced our Medical Miracle Worker (MMW) program and already it is making a difference in the lives of animals.
Our MMW partners are people who have agreed to be “On Call” when we have medical needs.
What does this mean? This means that if you are an MMW partner, you have agreed that when we have an animal come in with extraordinary medical needs (usually surgery or an “extreme dental” procedure) we can call you to ask whether you’d like to help us fund that specific animal’s surgery.
Answers to some Common Questions about the MMW Program
Q: If I tell you I want to be an MMW partner, does that obligate me to donate?
A: Not at all – it just means it’s OK to call you and ask for help. If you don’t feel you’re in a position to help, or choose not to help with that specific need, just say no.
Q: May I specify what type of animal I’d like to help?
A: Absolutely! If you prefer to help only cats, only dogs, or only rabbits just let us know. (Major medical on other animals, such as ferrets or hamsters, is relatively rare).
Q: Is this program used for spay/neuter?
A: No – we have a separate fund for people who want to further our spay/neuter efforts (and we’d love to have you donate to that if you feel led to do so). That said, an animal may also be altered while undergoing other surgery to make the vetting process as efficient as possible and to limit the number of times an animal is subjected to anesthesia.
Q: What’s the typical cost of a MMW procedure?
A: It can vary anywhere from about $150 to $1,000. The average is in the $250 – $500 range.
Q: Do I need to fund the entire cost of a procedure?
A: No! For example, if we have a $500 procedure and you feel you’d like to contribute $100 toward the treatment, we would welcome your support!
Q: Will I find out what happens to the animal I sponsor?
A: Absolutely! We will keep you posted as the animal goes through treatment, and let you know when he or she is adopted.
Q: Is my MMW sponsorship tax deductible?
A: Yes – it is considered a donation for which you receive no goods or services so it is deductible in accordance with IRS rules governing donations to a §501(c)(3) charity. Our tax number is 02-0508063.
